A coat of paint is always an eye opener as you will be astonished if it’s not been done for a few years how your whites have turned slightly yellow and your walls have more marks than you thought possible, this job was a big one with over 140 spindles over 3 floors, there is no quick way around this, it’s all in the preparation, rub them down once then undercoat, give them another rub down and then a top coat, if you have a stained wooden hand rail like this one do not try and cut in right up to it as getting the paint off is another job you will not enjoy doing, just stop 2/3mm away or if you have shaky hands you can mask them but you need to take it off as soon as you have painted that part as the paint will seep under even if you use the best tape on the market.

If the hand rail has not been maintained for a few years just get some wax close to the existing colour and with the finest wire wool (00 grade) apply it to the rail and then wipe of with a lint free cloth, the more coats applied the deeper the shine and trust us it will look and feel amazing, a little tip, wax the hand rail before you paint the spindles as you will paint over any wax you get on the spindles and if you get paint on the handrail after it has been freshly waxed you can just wipe it off with a cloth very easy.

When people paint doors they often tend to paint over the hinges and the locks, just put a bit of tape over them before, they look so much better and much easier than the hour or so required to remove and clean them.

When glossing doors you should have a go using mini gloss rollers for the flat parts, apart from being quicker it gives you a much flatter finish and as close as you will get to spraying without actually getting them sprayed.
